CBC host and reporter Robyn Burns asked if I had been to Macy's department store.

I had not and I took her question as a challenge: brave the iconic institution less than 48 hours before the big day.

I walked in at 10 pm (the store was open to midnight) on December 23. The aisles were active but foot traffic was

brisk.

I went to the 8th floor to see about a photo with Santa.

A disheveled elf said Santa's workshop was closed but to comeback tomorrow.

A bleary-eyed parent still in line shot me a look as if to say, "Don't do it!"

I took a quick meander through the toy department.

I wanted to yell, "If it's 40 % off today think what it will be 3 days from now!"
